Manuscript Evaluation
There’s nothing I like better than checking out a new manuscript! For many authors, a manuscript evaluation is a great way to start working with an editor. Doing an evaluation allows me to carefully read the whole manuscript and look for any potential issues, so we can then discuss how to fix them.
All manuscript evaluations include:
- big picture feedback
- chapter-by-chapter notes
- two pages of detailed markup, to illustrate key stylistic concepts
- a thorough follow-up conversation, by phone/Zoom/email (or in person if feasible), to talk through any questions arising from the evaluation, or any other questions you might have about publishing, your next steps, etc.
My goal during a manuscript evaluation is to give the author a detailed roadmap for completing their next round of revisions. In the weeks and months following the evaluation, I’m always here to answer your questions as you’re doing the hard work of revision, or to provide a quick opinion on a rewritten passage.
