Line editing
A thorough copy and stylistic edit (often referred to as line editing) helps your book to be as readable and powerful as it can be from start to finish.
Besides copy-editing to correct any language errors (typos, wrong punctuation, confusing tenses), I also address any stylistic and local substantive issues. For example:
- pointing out too-familiar descriptions that might be replaced with fresher details
- adjusting paragraph breaks to increase impact
- suggesting the rewording or deletion of short segments of text that might be redundant or ineffective
- prompting you to supply a bit of new text; for example, where a transition is unclear.
This final edit will get things “clean” enough that you’ll be able to self-publish or submit the book to publishers/agents.
